Lovely Kiss lands Group I success for Hazara Stud
(By Sharan Kumar)
Trainer Samar Singh, who did not know where his winner was going to come from last winter season, has a struck a gold patch through Hazara Stud Farm bred Lovely Kiss. The daughter of Rebuttal recorded a hat-trick of wins when landing the richly endowed Gr 1 Fillies Championship Stakes, the first classic of the Bangalore Summer Season.

Lovely Kiss (Ladjadj Stephene up), winner of the Fillies Championship Stakes (Gr.1), being led in by Mr.Vikram Singh, Mrs.Shanti Devi, Mr.Nirmal Singh, Mr.B.V.Singh & trainer Samar Singh
Lovely Kiss is owned in partnership by Mrs Shanti Devi, Vikram Singh, B V Singh and breeder Nirmal Singh. This is the first Group 1 success not only for first season sire Rebuttal but also for the up and coming stud farm based at Ambala in Haryana. Frenchman Stephane Ladjad did everything that was expected of him on the fancied runner..

The Fillies Championship attracted a big field of 16 runners though on book of form, Black Magic Woman, Lovely Kiss, Preordained and Nearness of You appeared to have better chance than the rest on the basis of their performances thus far. Black Magic Woman had performed incredibly well over sprints and had reached a higher handicap mark than the rest because of the fact that she had taken the handicap route as a lead up for this race. The light framed Lovely Kiss had smashed the opposition on the opening day of the season over seven furlongs and had everything going for her. Preordained had been twice a non-starter, dropping her jockey en route to starting gate but her performance in winter was pretty impressive. Nearness of You was a winner over a mile at Mumbai and was showing out in the workouts.

At the start, Magnitude who was drawn one, jumped outwards, causing Nearness of You to be checked and as a result, the filly found herself gracing the rear as the entire field on her outside closed in. Passing some distance, Lovely Kiss steadily moved in from the wide outside draw and Sandesh, who was riding Preordained, went inwards in anticipation of getting a check. Black Magic Woman who was directly in line with her, had to drop back and lose valuable ground. Since the field was tightly packed as the pace of the race was comfortable, it was difficult for horses from behind to get a clear run till the final stages of the race.

Ace Blood did the job of a pace setter with Lovely Kiss in close attendance followed by Preordained, Show Time, Forever Glory, Black Magic Woman, Dancerella, Magnitude, Celebrity, Practically Perfect, Nearness of You, Bloody Mary, Current Ray, African Queen and Romantique. Preordained showed out briefly inside the final 300 metres but her lead was short-lived as Lovely Kiss came up with a sustained burst of speed to gain a decisive advantage. Black Magic Woman too joined issue while Nearness of You who was struggling for room to get into full steam, came into contention. Lovely Kiss skipped away in the final moments of the race to spare a shed less than two lengths to Black Magic Woman who in turn was 1/2 a length ahead of Preordained. Nearness of You was less than a length behind Preordained. Romantique and Forever Glory ran on to occupy the next two positions.

This was the first classic success for Samar Singh who has done a good job of keeping the light framed filly in good condition. ``I am thrilled and happy that I am able to land a classic when luck was not running my way in the last one year,`` said Samar Singh. For Nirmal Sigh who is reaping a rich harvest thanks to his first season sire Rebuttal turning out to be an outstanding success, the success of Lovely Kiss is bound to boost the produce of his stud farm further..
